Is It Time to Add Video to Your Podcast?

When Video Isn’t Just Extra

You’ve heard plenty of “should you add video?” chatter out there. But here’s the real question: Why would you add video? When is it the next right move, not just the shiny new thing?

Over the years, I’ve worked with podcasters whose podast why, audience, and business goals point unmistakably toward video. For them, sticking with audio only wasn’t protecting the show, it was limiting it. And for you, that might be exactly where you are right now.

5 Signs It’s Your Time to Turn on the Camera

Ask yourself:

  1. Audience Behavior: Are your people already watching video content like yours?
  2. Competitive Context: Do other leaders in your space build trust, authority, or sales with video?
  3. Content Type: Would your show be stronger if folks could see reactions, visuals, or body language?
  4. Capacity: Do you have the workflow and support to add video without losing consistency?
  5. Readiness: Is your podcast so clear and solid that video would be an expansion, not a distraction?

If you can answer “yes” to these, video isn’t a guess, it’s your logical next step.

How to Get It Right

Don’t just turn on a camera and hope for magic. Here’s my approach:

  • Launch intentionally: Set a visual standard that matches your brand.
  • Map out your workflow: Know how video fits in, without overloading yourself.
  • Choose your platforms: Where will your audience actually watch?
  • Be strategic: Let video serve your purpose. Don’t duplicate your audio.

And sometimes a professional studio is worth it to stake your claim as an authority from day one.

Your Podcast Deserves a Strategic Upgrade

A podcast why–led video launch feels prepared, coherent, and exciting. It’s not an anxious chase after trends, It’s a confident, strategic step forward.

If your podcast why calls for more visibility, authority, and trust (and you’re ready to support it) then video might be exactly what your show needs next.

Keep showing up with clarity and confidence,

My Podcast Guy® Newsletter So many podcasters churn out episodes week after week, year after year. Often without ever stopping to ask themselves the most vital question:Why am I still doing this? It’s easy to keep going out of momentum or routine. But true clarity comes when you pause, take a breath, and consciously recommit to your podcast’s deeper purpose. Not just continue out of habit. My Podcast Guy® Newsletter At some point, when you podcast long enough, life is going to interrupt the show. A health issue. A business pivot. A family situation. A season where your capacity to create just isn’t there. And when that happens, most podcasters don’t just deal with the interruption itself. They also deal with the guilt. Over the years, I’ve worked with podcasters through all kinds of unexpected pauses. What I’ve seen is this: the interruption usually isn’t what damages the...
