The simplest fix for podcast burnout

My Podcast Guy® Newsletter

Most podcasters think burnout means they “lost motivation.”

In my experience, burnout usually means something else:

The process became unsustainable.

When every episode feels like starting from scratch—new topic, new outline, new scramble—your podcast stops feeling like an asset and starts feeling like a burden.

Here are 3 systems I tell clients to build first:

1) Batching
Record 2–4 episodes in one session. Less context switching. More consistency.

2) A 60–90 day topic bank
A living list of ideas so you’re never staring at a blank page the night before you record.

3) A simple production checklist
Outline → record → edit → show notes → publish → promote. Same steps every time.

Bonus system (the one people resist): planned breaks.
Consistency doesn’t mean relentless. Planned pauses keep you in this for the long game.

Action step: pick ONE system above and apply it for the next 30 days. Small operational changes compound fast.

When is it the next right move, not just the shiny new thing? Over the years, I’ve worked with podcasters whose podast why, audience, and business goals point unmistakably toward video. For them, sticking with audio only wasn’t protecting the show, it was limiting it. And for you, that might be exactly where you are...

My Podcast Guy® Newsletter So many podcasters churn out episodes week after week, year after year. Often without ever stopping to ask themselves the most vital question:Why am I still doing this? It’s easy to keep going out of momentum or routine. But true clarity comes when you pause, take a breath, and consciously recommit to your podcast’s deeper purpose. Not just continue out of habit. The Recommitment Review Framework Here’s the annual practice I suggest to every podcaster I work with....

My Podcast Guy® Newsletter At some point, when you podcast long enough, life is going to interrupt the show. A health issue. A business pivot. A family situation. A season where your capacity to create just isn’t there. And when that happens, most podcasters don’t just deal with the interruption itself. They also deal with the guilt. Over the years, I’ve worked with podcasters through all kinds of unexpected pauses. What I’ve seen is this: the interruption usually isn’t what damages the...
